Description: This layer displays Wiscland2 Crop Rotation classes at Level3. Classes are assigned colors intended to make them easily distinguishable visually. Crop Rotation classes indicate areas dedicated to agriculture row crop production where the planting of different annual crops is alternated each year, or for perennial crops every 2-5 years.
Wiscland 2 is a raster representation of the land cover throughout the state of Wisconsin as of 2016. The dataset is primarily derived from remote sensing imagery acquired by the Landsat 5, 7, and 8 satellites between 2010 and 2014. Land cover was classified via supervised classification at the native 30m resolution. The map has a two acre minimum mapping unit, meaning that the smallest feature depicted in the map is approximately nine pixels in size. The land cover data are best utilized at nominal scales of 1:40,000 to 1:500,000.
Detailed information on the map production, classification scheme, class descriptions, and more can be found in the Wiscland 2 User's Guide and associated documents. Accuracy for the Agriculture class(es) is not reported as these classes were not mapped via the image classification process but were applied to the map from an existing dataset. See the Wiscland 2 User's Guide for more details on map production and accuracy metrics (ftp://dnrftp01.wi.gov/geodata/metadata/WI_land_cover2_user_guide.pdf).
