Service Description: The data sources for this image service are DEMs from the US Geological Survey’s 10-by-10-meter National Elevation Dataset (NED), downloaded as 1-by-1-degree tiles from this USGS site in August 2012: http://cumulus.cr.usgs.gov/webappcontent/neddownloadtool/NEDDownloadToolDMS.html.in Using the 10-meter NED tiled DEMs, WI DNR staff created a mosaic 32-bit Float Grid covering Wisconsin and portions of adjacent states and projected the data to the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator (WTM) coordinate referencing system based on the 1991 adjustment to NAD83 – WTM83(1991). The Grid was snapped to the Wiscland 1.0 Land Cover Grid (see: https://dnr.wi.gov/maps/WISCLAND.html). The 10-meter DEMs have not been hydrologically conditioned. Elevations are expressed as meters relative to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). The DEM is intended for analysis rather than visualization of the landscape. For landscape visualization purposes, use one of the Hillshade services found in the same service folder as the EN_DEM_10m service. WI DNR acknowledges the USGS for making source data available. For more information, visit https://dnr.wi.gov/feedback/ and choose Geographic Information Systems Data as the subject.
