DG_Well_Driller/DG_Dual_Aquifer_WTM_EXT (MapServer)

View In:   ArcGIS JavaScript   ArcGIS Online Map Viewer   ArcGIS Earth   ArcGIS Pro

Service Description: This Geographic Information System (GIS) Dual Aquifer/Maquoketa Shale Formation data consists of the best available data that represent boundaries of where the Niagara Dolomite overlies the Maquoketa Shale formation; it approximates the limits of this boundary based on available information derived from several data sources (WGNHS Bedrock Geologic Map and Silurian Devonian Dolomite GIS dataset) including maps contained in DNR files and hydrogeological information compiled and interpreted by DNR staff. GIS location data may be used by well drillers and the DNR Drinking Water and Groundwater Program to help identify the general location of the Niagara Dolomite boundary and to assist in planning for the construction of a compliant well under ch. NR 812.14(10), Wis. Adm. Code. GIS locations of this layer should not be solely relied upon to make compliance decisions. The presence or absence of geologic formations should be verified during well construction. QUALITY ASSURANCE: Please be advised that this dataset has not undergone a quality assurance (QA) review. Formation boundaries were digitized based on data sets of varying quality. At the time of the screening, if detailed maps were not available, staff provided an estimate of the general location of the boundary. The QA review process includes verifying whether the boundaries accurately represent the limits of the Maquoketa Shale formation as depicted in available and emerging data and updating it if necessary.
