Description: The WDNR major basin boundaries were derived from the Subbasin (8-digit) 4th level hydrologic units from the digital Watershed Boundary Dataset for the State of Wisconsin. HUCs were clipped to the state boundary, then dissolved on the major basin code (which was added manually after the clip process). Area and perimeter were then recalculated. This data set consists of geo-referenced digital data and associated attributes created in accordance with the "FGDC Proposal, Version 1.0 - Federal Standards For Delineation of Hydrologic Unit Boundaries 3/01/02". These polygons are attributed with hydrologic unit codes and names for 4th level sub-basins. The native projection of the Watershed Boundary Dataset was UTM zone 16T. This extract has been projected to the Wisconsin Transverse Mercator (WTM) coordinate system for use in DNR applications. The dataset extent is the state of Wisconsin, plus the extent of 8-digit HUCs that extend across the state line into northern Illinois and western upper Michigan.
Copyright Text: Funding for the Wisconsin Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) was provided by the USDA Forest Service, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and U.S. EPA, Region 5. Representatives from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (Dale Higgins, Walt Rasmussen, Lisa Brehm), U.S. EPA Region 5 (Milo Anderson, Joan Rogers, Andrew Bock, Walt Rasmussen), USGS Wisconsin Water Science Center (Jana Stewart, Cheryl Buchwald), Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (Jim Baumann), Wisconsin Natural Resources Conservation Service (Annette Humpal), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (Jim Solstad, Andrea Bergman), St. Croix National Scenic Riverway (Randy Ferrin, Marianna Young) have worked together in a combined effort, contributing a substantial amount of time and salary towards bringing the legacy dataset up to the criteria outlined in the Federal Standards for Delineation of Watershed Boundaries.

Description: This polygon feature class represents boundaries of the 72 counties in Wisconsin. The data is derived from 1:24,000-scale sources. This feature class was last updated in December 2011; refer to the Data Quality section of the ArcGIS metadata for information about the nature of the update.
Description: This data layer is a polygon shapefile representing Municipal Boundaries in Wisconsin, obtained from WisDOT on August 2, 2011. Staff at WI DATCP and WI DNR made limited edits to the data to achieve consistency with Municipal Boundary data maintained at WI DOA. In this version of the data, county boundary lines are dissolved in cases where a municipality (or Minor Civil Division -- MCD) spans two or more counties. In other words, each MCD is represented as a single polygon or region feature.
