Layer: Major Highways (ID: 0)

Name: Major Highways

Display Field: SHAPE_Length

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolyline

Description: The WISLR database includes only lines representing roads for which WisDOT has maintenance responsibility; other roads commonly expected to be present in a representation of local roads (e.g., State Street and Observatory Drive in Madison) are NOT present, and would need to be added to a future version of the WISLR database. For the first time, INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS were included by WisDOT in this version of WISLR. Private Roads, ROADWAY_CATEGORY_CODE = 9, have not been removed; DNR users should be cognizant of this fact when presenting views to the public. Some of the data contained in this data set has not been finalized and should be considered "preliminary or pre-production". Some items WISLR is in the process of verifying/ correcting: certified roadway routes names, possible missing roads and some road alignment issues. While the overlay layer does contain a mileage value that has been proportionally derived from the certified mileage, it does NOT represent the certified mileage for a section of highway. Only one roadway route name is stored per feature in the overlay layer (this is the route name that WisDOT considers the "primary" route name for which certified mileage is tied to, it does not necessarily represent the route name that is physically signed out in the field). The route and route links tables must be used to retrieve all of the route names traveling over a link. The physical and administrative attribute data contained in the WISLR database was converted from the Local Road IMS System. The Local Road System stored attribute values in sections or segments. Thus, attribute values represent the average or predominant value; they do not necessarily cover the entire length of the section and it may not be representative at any given point. It should also be noted that many local governments have not yet evaluated the correctness of this database. The data in this data set has been compiled from multiple sources (see finalsource.jpg). The scale varies depending on the source that was used for each road or municipality. The Overlay layer has been created by "overlaying / dynamically segmenting" all data items in the database. Features (arcs) are broken whenever any data item in the database changes.
