Description: This layer was originally developed alongside the development of the Wisconsin Trails Network Plan GIS mapping application. This layer displays state trails in Wisconsin. State trails have been segmented into numerous smaller segments when a change in any of the listed attributes change along a state trail: Segment Name, Corridor Number (of network plan corridors), Surface Type, Trail Manager, County, Trail Pass Required, Open Status, Rail Trail, Allowed Use, or overlap with other trails. This layer was updated with the 2023 Wisconsin Trails Network Plan Update and will receive updates as the above listed attributes change throughout the state trails. The Ice Age and North Country National Scenic Trails are not included in this layer. Some trail segments are included in this layer that have been acquired but have not been developed yet. These segments have surface type and other attributes omitted as they are subject to change during their development process.

Description: GIS layer displaying Wisconsin state trails. Trails are dissolved so that there is only one polyline per trail, in most cases. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail, North Country National Scenic Trail are both also national trails. The Lake Michigan State Water Trail generalized route is a water trail.

Description: This layer was originally developed alongside the development of the Wisconsin Trails Network Plan GIS mapping application. This layer displays Wisconsin network plan corridors, corridors of land as they were laid out in the 2001 Wisconsin Trails Network Plan. Network Plan corridors may be existing rail or utility corridors, roads and easements, or existing natural resource trail corridors such as the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. While these corridors may not currently be classified as trails, if they were converted to trails, they would serve to create an interconnect state trail network for recreation and transportation throughout Wisconsin. The presence of a corridor does not equate to existing plans to convert the corridor to a trail, nor to acquire this land without the applicable partners’ joint interest in doing so. The corridors in this layer feature information on the counties they run through, trails that have been developed on the corridor, and general descriptions of each. This layer was updated for the 2023 Wisconsin Trails Network Plan Update and does not contain information on, or attribute for, individual trails or trail segments, including state trails and should not be used as a substitute for any trails GIS layers, DNR or otherwise.
